The Arab Film Festival is a non-profit film festival, organized by the association International Arab Film Festival Zurich IAFFZ and the Filmpodium in Zurich.
It focuses on films by Arab filmmakers that haven’t been shown in commercial cinemas. The program comprises short and feature films, documentaries, animations, and experimental films concerning social, cultural and political topics. The audience has the possibility to talk and discuss the films and topics with the invited filmmakers.
The Arab Film Festival Zurich is a place for encounter and dialogue between cultures. With its internationally comprehensible language, the medium of film serves as a means of communication. With this in mind, the film festival wants to contribute to a differentiated view of the Arab culture far from daily news on the media channels.
The first edition of the Arab Film Festival Zurich in 2012 was met with great interest by the public and the media. Since then it presents a representative selection of outstanding, current films from different Arab countries.
Honorary board members of the IAFFZ, the filmpodium’s management team and many volunteers build the festival team, united by their common interest in film and the Arab culture. The program is compiled by Aida Schläpfer (filmmaker and director, president of the association IAFFZ), Corinne Siegrist-Oboussier and Michel Bodmer (filmpodium management team).
