A Film School in Mosul
In February 2022, UNESCO and the Belgian theatre NTGent (Artistic director: Milo Rau) set up the foundation of a film school in the Iraqi city of Mosul within the EU-funded project “Revive the Spirit of Mosul”. In close collaboration with the Fine Arts Institute of Mosul, twenty students, male and female, were trained by an Iraqi-Belgian team of film teachers.

Jasmine Benhaida
ModeratorJasmine Benhaida began working on her PhD at the Department of Near and Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Basel in February 2021. Her dissertation project examines the practices of women at the Sharia Courts in Jordan between 1918 and 1928.
Daniele Cantini
ParticipantDaniele Cantini is research fellow at Halle University, Germany. He earned his PhD in social anthropology at Modena University in 2006. He conducted research in Jordan, Egypt, and Lebanon and held positions in Cairo, Modena, Halle, Beirut, and Zurich.
Zaid Abu Hamdan
ParticipantZaid Abu Hamdan's short film Bahiya & Mahmoud qualified for an Oscar nomination in 2012. His feature film Daughters of Abdul-Rahman won audience awards and will be screened at the AFFZ 2022. Zaid’s second feature film Boomah is planned to shoot mid-2023.
Panel: Filmmaking in Lebanon

ParticipantNay Abou Fayad, born in Beirut, is an experienced actress and transdisciplinary artist (theatre, music, psychology and languages). Since 2016, she has appeared in several plays and short films and starred in James Chehab's feature film "The Adventures of a Mother and Her Daughters...".
Symposium: Women Make Films in Saudi Arabia
Saudi women have achieved clear progress in the field of filmmaking compared to their participation in other creative areas of arts and literature, beginning with the number of female directors, which has markedly increased since the beginning of the Birth of Saudi Cinema.
Even at first glance, one can see their obvious strength when it comes to discussing social issues and political problems on an artistic level.

Award Ceremony
On Sunday, November 27 at 17.30 we present the prizes for the "Best Film" and the "Best Director" at the Filmpodium as part of the 6th Arab Film Festival Zurich 2022.
13 new feature films and documentaries are in competition.
On December 1st at 18.30, one of the two award-winning films of the 6th Arab Film Festival will be screened again.
