Michel Bodmer, born in Zurich in 1958, studied English language and literature, German literature and Comparative literature in Zurich and graduated with an M.A. before going on to work as a freelance translator and film journalist.
From 1987 to 2014 he worked for German-language Swiss National Television, where he was concerned with feature-film acquisitions and programming as well as several years' worth of TV drama production. From 1994 to 2009 he was the responsible editor and host of the late-night cinephile programme "Delikatessen". From 2004 to 2011 he was in charge of all acquired fictional programming at German-language Swiss National Television.
From 2014 to 2023, Michel Bodmer was Deputy Director of Filmpodium Zurich, a repertory cinema operated by the Mayor of Zurich's Office of Cultural Affairs, where he was also responsible for the Arab Film Festival Zurich.
